On Monday 31st October we joined the Citizens Advice at Selby Library to talk all things energy, oh and to have a cuppa and a piece of cake.

With Monday being market day in Selby we had a steady flow of people coming into the library and we hope to have saved people quite a bit of money on their energy bills. Questions covered cheaper prepayment tariffs, how to get prepayment meters taken out, if any help was available for families on a low income, the benefits of smart meters, and how to go about switching.

From our point of view the biggest saving went to a family to whom we did a home visit following the event. Switching to a cheaper energy supplier and moving from quarterly payments to monthly direct debit saved £330 per year. Once the switch has gone through they can make an application for the £140 Warm Home Discount with the new company. They were also eligible for a cap on their water bills through Yorkshire Water's Water Support scheme, saving £142 per year.

Hopefully everyone felt that it had been worthwhile coming along!
