Are you interested in a role giving advice or support to others?

We are very excited to have been named as a delivery partner for ESF Community Grants in 2020. ESF Community Grants are funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Education and Skills Funding Agency and the aim of the fund is to help unemployed people progress towards employment through access to learning and training opportunities.

The grant will enable local people who are currently out of work to access a unique learning opportunity in the Selby District. It will be of particular interest to anyone looking for employment in advice or support work or who wants to improve their skills in working and communicating with others.

Through the project we will be running two training courses around communicating, engaging and giving advice, using the field of energy and environmental issues as a chance to put learning into a practical context. Attendees will also receive one-to-one support in progressing towards additional training and/or employment and have an opportunity to get involved in energy and environmental projects going on locally.

Kate, who will be running the project, said: "by concentrating on skills around communicating, advising and working with others, we will be helping participants to develop transferable skills that are so highly desired by a range of employers. Furthermore, it will give attendees a chance to do this in a real world context by getting involved in projects around saving energy and initiatives to help the environment".

We will also look to work with potential participants to overcome any barriers that are hindering access to training and employment opportunities, whether it be limited transport, caring responsibilities, low confidence or self-esteem, or a lack of recent experience. The ESF Community Grant has the flexibility to provide practical support (such as help with travel costs) as well as a learning opportunity in an environment that is fully inclusive and supportive".
