Training

Do you support vulnerable residents?

We can currently offer free in-house training for frontline staff on 1) energy awareness & fuel poverty and 2) carbon monoxide. You can access just one or both at once and we can tailor the training according to how long you have available (minimum 1 hour).

1) Energy awareness

This will equip you with up-to-date knowledge and skills on how you can help vulnerable residents reduce their energy bills and keep warm and well over the winter. The training will:

  • Explain who is at risk of fuel poverty, the impacts and how to recognise the signs of fuel poor households
  • Tell you about schemes that can provide financial help with energy and water bills
  • Discuss different ways of paying for energy and how to switch to a cheaper supplier
  • Explain the pros and cons of smart meters
  • Advise on the schemes that are currently available to help with new boilers or insulation
  • Give tips on easy ways people can save energy, money and keep warm and well
  • Explain the schemes available locally to support vulnerable households

2) Carbon monoxide training

This will cover:

  • Facts and figures around carbon monoxide
  • Signs & symptoms of CO poisoning
  • Potential sources of CO
  • CO alarms
  • Ways to mitigate the risks of CO

We have delivered training on these topics to over 800 members of staff from frontline organisations over the last 4 years, including Advocacy Services, Age UK, Care workers, Carers Count, Charities supporting residents with a disability, Children's Centres, Citizen's Advice, Fire Service, Housing associations, Living Well Officers, Local government, Mental health charities, Prevention Teams, Refugee Council, Social Services and a range of other voluntary and community organisations. Feedback comments include:

"Very useful - so much information is hidden
(Housing Support Officer, Selby)

"Really good clear course. Very useful to job that I do. Will now ask carers about their energy costs, thankyou"
