Energy advice for residents of East Riding of Yorkshire

Funder

Northern Gas Networks

Area covered

East Riding of Yorkshire

Start date

April 2025

End date

March 2026

Project Summary

15.2% of households in East Riding of Yorkshire are in fuel poverty but, in certain parts of the district, these levels are much higher - 46% of households in parts of Bridlington are fuel poor, 40% in Holderness and 37% in Goole. This project introduces a new specialist energy advice service into East Riding to tackle fuel poverty, addressing current challenges such as record levels of energy debt, recent increases in energy prices, rising numbers of billing problems, loss of the Winter Fuel Payment for pensioners, and increasing water prices. The funding allows us to offer 1-2-1 energy advice to households, community outreach events, and training for frontline staff. We will also be looking to work with Primary Care Networks in the area to target older residents who have health conditions that are made worse by cold homes.

Project update

This is a brand new project that launched in April 2025. We have recruited 3 new Community Energy Advisers who are able to attend community venues to deliver talks to community groups, run drop-in advice sessions or host a stand at community events. We have also been building links and networks with other public and voluntary sector organisations in the area who are already supporting vulnerable households. If you would like to discuss further how we could work togrether please contact: kate@yorkshireenergydoctor.org.uk
