Training courses

We currently offer a range of courses for staff and volunteers from voluntary and public sector organisations, and for interested local residents.

1) Community Energy Ambassadors

We are now in year 7 of this project and have had over 1,000 people attend our Energy Ambassadors course. It aims to equip staff and volunteers from voluntary and public sector organisations to be able to help vulnerable residents reduce their energy bills and keep warm and well over the winter. 

You will then join our network of Energy Ambassadors and receive regular newsletters and opportunities to attend update events in the future

  • Cost?       Free for anyone in North/East/West Yorkshire, the Northeast or Cumbria.
  • Length?  3 x 1.5 hour sessions
  • Format? Held on Zoom

2) Energy Literacy

Funded through the Skills Innovation Fund, this is an opportunity to become energy literate! Build your confidence and knowledge around energy bills, energy use, energy efficiency and low-carbon technologies. Relevant whether you are interested personally in saving energy and money, want to increase your confidence in managing bills, or are looking to upskill for work or volunteering opportunities in the advice or environmental sector.

  • Cost?       Free for anyone in North Yorkshire or York
  • Length?  Approx 8 hours
  • Format?  2 x 1.5 hour group sessions (3 hours) and self-guided study ( 5hours)

3) Heating for Health

A shorter 1 hour training course that is targeted at anyone working in a health or social care role. It covers understanding of fuel poverty & the impact on health, and how to respond to the recommendations made in NICE Guideline 6 around a) identifying residents at risk from cold homes, b) making every contact count to assess heating needs, and c) how to help people whose homes may be too cold. 

We can also organise a free online standalone course for your organisation if you have a minimum of 6 attendees.

4) Climate change and the voluntary sector

This is the course for you if you want an accessible introduction to climate change, its impacts and the role we can all play in taking positive action ourselves, in our organisations and within communities. Learn in your own time through quizzes, videos and reading materials.

  • Length? 1.5 hours
  • Format? e-learning
