Do you have a smart meter?

Smart meters have been in the news this week with figures suggesting that 2.7million smart meters (approx 8%) are not working in smart mode. This does however mean that 92% of smart meters are working as they should be so don’t let the news headlines put you off getting one!

What should you do if your smart meter isn’t working properly?

Problem 1 – Meter not communicating with energy supplier

Impact – your bills will be estimated.

Advice

  • Read your own meter and submit meter readings manually.
  • If you can’t read your own meter, request quarterly meter readings (need to be on Priority Services Register).
  • Report to energy supplier and raise complaint.

There is a programme to switch 1st generation meters to nationwide secure smart meter network – most by remote upgrade.

Problem 2 – In-home display not working but meter is sending readings
