Learn more about energy!

Thanks to funding through the new Step Up project, we are able to offer an exciting opportunity to learn more about energy and energy use in the home. Whether you want to understand why your own bills are so high, have specific problems around your energy bills, learn about new technologies, or are interested in the environment and sustainability, this course has something for you.

 

Who is eligible?

You need to live in North Yorkshire or York, and be aged 18-64.

You can then be either:

  • Employed and need/want to upskill or reskill OR 
  • Out of work and want to learn new skills to move towards further learning, volunteering or work.
 
How does it work?
 
This will be an informal and very hands-on, practical, course. You will:
 
a) join an introductory group session
then
b) be given practical exercises to work through in your own time to properly understand all elements of energy use in the home.
 

This may include:

  • understanding energy bills
  • monitoring your own energy use in more detail
  • calculating costs of appliances
  • doing a home energy audit,
  • saving energy whilst cooking
  • learning more about new technologies like heat pumps and solar PV
  • gaining knowledge about wider environmental and sustainability issues.
 
Whilst learning more, we will be on hand to check-in with you to answer any questions that arise, to support with any 1-2-1 problems around bills, and to look at future opportunities in this field.
 
 
When?
 
You can choose from one of the following dates:
  • Introductory session 1 (online) – Wed 25th March, 9.30-11am
  • Introductory session 2 (Selby, in-person) – Thurs 14th May, 2-3.30pm
  • Introductory session 3 (online) – Tues 15th Sept, 2-3.30pm
Everything else will be done as and when is convenient to you. NB: If attending a group session isn’t appropriate or convenient, this learning opportunity can still be accessed on a 1-2-1 basis.
